7mm rem mag convert to smaller cal? advice please...

i have a sako a7 7mm rem mag.... and i LOVE IT but its too much gun for me im thinking 25-06 would be more suitable for me ( ive had surgury on my shoulder so i want a girly caliber so i dont have to put up with getting booted , im open to ideas on calibers ive been advised so far 25-06 is not too bad, but im guessing to convert my 7rm to this it wont be as simple a a barrel because the bolt will also be for a bigger diamater shell, do i just sell my rifle and start fresh???????

    Sell it and buy another.

Or have you tried a brake or suppressor and a softer recoil pad?

    Yep

I'd sell and buy something more gentle on the shoulder.

6.5x55 can be very gentle on the shoulder yet still shoot a 140gr projectile accurately over medium distances.

What distance do you expect you would normally shoot over?

What animals or targets do you usually shoo The?

    Cheers

You have a few choices at minimal cost to you

    Download your ammo

Get someone else to download ammo for you

Use factory ammo with 140g projectiles for reduced recoil

Purchase Remington " reduced recoil" factory ammo that's loaded soft for younger shooters.

Lastly, if you are only target/farm area type shooting it's possible to remove the recoil pad and slip a 2 kg lead weight into the rear of the stock. Add 3 kg if you want it to feel like a .22 rimfire

Super easy to remove the lead bar anytime you wish.

^ this- when i first got my 7mm I had a wicked flinch, lead shot mixed with expanding foam or two pot epoxy( silicone dosent set) in a heavy duty ziplock bag worked for me, no noise, fits well, easy to remove
next time though Id go lighter weight lead and suppressor, or a decent brake and good ear plugs and muffs

Get a T2 Terminator brake fitted it will save you carrying an extra 2-3kgs of rifle and keep the balance right. My 7mm rem mag's recoil would be about the same as a 243 maybe less. That way you only need to carry ear plugs. @Kiwi Greg has some you tube clips under Terminator products in commercial advertising bottom of home page.

years back a mates kid inherited a 12 gauge that kicked like a mule, as he was a skinny wee bugger and couldnt handle the recoil we bought a foot of plastic hose, 1/2 filled it with mercury and taped it onto the for end. as the gun recoiled the mercury sloshed forwards and took up a significant amount of recoil. worked a treat until he was big enough to handle it without the addition

You love the gun? Don't sell it.

7mmsaum hit the nail on the head, get into reloading and download the ammo to 7mm08 or lower if you like, it's easily done. As your shoulder recovers you can load it back up.

2506 Gets the thumbs up they have a pretty good range of bullet weights not that Iv used anything under 117gn but that's only because my gun likes the 117 or 120,s got a trip to Stewart island coming up I wouldn't mind loading some 70grners just for kicks seemly they can get upto 3700 fps be interesting to test some on a goat.

You have a 7-08 in the for sale section with a Dpt can. Wouldn't that be the answer to your problem with the rem mag, just using the 7-08 I mean?

Why do people seem to think of goats as some kind of test dummies?

Because they think they're easier to find than deer?
