    7mm08 Bushpig

Thanks to all the advice from the team here, finally wound up with the rifle I wanted shooting the way I wanted. Started life as a stock standard Weatherby Vanguard mk2 in 7mm08 but has since been cut back to 17inchs and with the over barrel suppressor I’m really pleased. With shelf ammo I’m still centre of the gong at 400yards. Safe to say I’m happy, thanks for all the input team!

What speed you getting out of that? I'm getting keen to cut my 7mm08 down but want to shoot deer out to 300 with it.

FYI - My 15" 708 is pushing 140 NBT's at 2720 fps, which gives enough terminal velocity and energy to 550 yards, not bad from a stumpy little thing. These are handloads using CFE223 powder

Still at 2530fps using rl17, which is still plenty to reach out to 650. Its pretty much been my go to for everything for the last 12 months, just got my 7saum runnung so that goes on the big trips

@GWH what’s the Cfe223 burn rate like compared to 2208? Recently acquired a 16in 7-08 and about to start load dev with 130 Speer SPBT and 150 ELDx. Have a can of CFE as well as 2208 on hand

@chainsaw CFE223 is slightly slower than 2208. Should do well with the 150gn. However hodgdon data suggests varget/2208 will produce higher velocities- However this is tested with 24" barrel.

I used the cfe223 with 120 nbts originally, pushed them at 2870 fps from the 15 inch tube.

CFE is known to produce way better velocities with the lighter bullets in Bush Pigs. Ideal for a 7-08 or 308 with TTSXs

Yeah, I think that's hard to get here in Australia.
Some of those imported powders are sort after.

Sounds like you enjoy a Weekend away with your little Scrub Slut.

My 7-08 is a Tikka CTR in 20" with a threaded barrel, but the threads not worth a pinch of shit in Australia. We cannot own "Silencers"
South Africa is like NZ they are just an accessory.
Anyway I call mine "Ugly Betty" just because and she's not pretty but pretty effective.

My wife's fine with me spending time with Ugly Betty, telling her I'm heading out with my Scrub Slut might land me in hot water.

Did you have a speed with the same load at about 20 inches?
