I bought some ferric chloride to mix with alcohol to try and brown a kammerlader.If it doesn't work,I will order what you used.

lol, yes you are right, it should have been gone in the Paradox trade but that fell over, I think it is too much work & needs too many parts for sensible folk !

Doubles its power.

@vietnamcam there are a few different double set trigger styles
But mainly double set single phase and double set double phase

This rifle is the latter and this is a good explanation of how it works

A double set, double phase trigger can be operated as a standard trigger if the set trigger is not pulled, or as a set trigger by first pulling the set trigger. Double set, double phase triggers offer the versatility of both a standard trigger and a set trigger

The rear trigger is the set trigger and the front one is the firing trigger
Un set the trigger pull is 5 pounds with a little creep but is a good trigger for its type
Once the rear trigger is pulled to set the front trigger the pull is about 5 oz and there is an easy adjustment .
It can go as low as about 2 oz before it won't set

I haven't used double set triggers much but it's pretty obvious when you have a play with it.

The good thing with flintlocks is they are safe to dry fire and get the hang of it all

I put 20 shots down range today from the American long rifle
This image is a cluster of shots from a bench at 55m
Every few shots I took another 0.5mm off the front sight
Slowly brought it up close to the target using a 60 grain FFG load.
Shot 11 was the last 60 grain load
Then decided to try a heavier charge thinking it would raise the point of impact further
But to my surprise shot 12 a 70 grain charge and shot 13 an 80 grain charge all landed with shot 11 anyway

I need to file a little more off the front sight and fire the various charge weights again to see if they shoot to the same place at that range

Windage was a little to the right but it will be corrected when the front sight goes back in after it's shoulders are trimmed and it's all browned

@veitnamcam might be able to get you a Pedisoli copy of a Gibbs, 500 grain 45 long projectile, 900 long barrel, mint condition with lots of extras, good for 600 + metres, loaded with 90 grains on Swiss BP.

I got given a bag of stock parts that I had looked through at a friend's recently
Thought there might be a usable trigger guard

There was a rough steel casting of a ALR style amongst it



So a few hours with files and the blow torch to caress it into shape and its going to be ideal
Now I need to wait for the magic to happen with the Browning solution

And there's a particularly nice English style trigger guard there that might be the starting point for the next muzzleloader build
