Bi-pod Spikes... with a difference!

Pod spikes are nothing new, the idea has been around in many various formats for decades now. The idea has always appealed, however the negatives like not being able to shoot off hard surfaces (or painted ones like your ute bonnet) prevented me from going down this road.

Sure, you could have two bipods, one with spikes...the other without. But that's just more shit to try squeeze into an alreay full hunting pack, plus more $$$. But late last night an idea popped into my head:

So to my knowledge, this is a first. I made the spikes, so that the old rubber feet would fit snugly over the top. The diameter is enough to hold them there on the own, nice tight fit. But a little electrical tape will be used just for peace of mind, to stop me from losing them if needed.

So there it is, you can have your cake and eat it too...with a little kiwi ingenuity:)

How about adding a bit of fine wire braid connecting the rubbers to the spikes, so you can pop them off but leave them hanging connected... never lose them.

Very cool. I just run two different Harris bi-pods. Your idea is much better!

Great ideas. I did think about making screw-in feet and spikes that you could interchange at will. But this idea seamed easier and a good place to start. If I grow to like the general concept, I may make the screw version?

If you've ever taken one of these Harris bipods apart, you'll know the frustration of putting it back together again.

Put the feet end on first, then pull wire and attach the brass key ring thingy...easy from there on.

Just goes to show there's no such thing as a new idea. But hey, I'm still pretty happy with what I've made.

I machined an o-ring groove and put one on. This creates a very firm fit. Pretty sure this will hold up to most situations.
