    Broken tikka mag repair

I brought a tikka 7mm rem mag at Ruahene auction
When I zeroed it the other day I noticed the mag wasn’t holding ammo
And there was a big spilt down the back of the mag which was opening up and the ammo was popping back out the top of the mag

I have replaced the mag but I thought it have a go at repairing the old one
I looked online and found a method of using a soldering iron and melting staple gun staples into the item
Essentially plastic welding without the correct Equipment

So i did just that while holding crack closed in the vise

I then tidied up with a bit of polypropylene from a black yoghurt pot

It’s not the Tidiest but I’ve put a larger amount of force than that normal and not even a sign of movement
    And perfectly functional

    Yep not from that though
Had a pretty bad accident with molten lead about a month ago
    It went all over me
Pretty lucky to get away with a couple of small but pretty major burns
    Could have been much more

Like 6X I was more worried about your hand. 1 mag for a deer rifle is enough. If your patch works you have a back up.
Not pretty but functional so far. What’s not to like.

Zippy ties work really well for plastic welding too,the black plastic sheet used for pond lining is better still...just ask my frakeinducks lol

Was just about to suggest the HDPE pond liner material. It's really useful for all sorts of oddball things...

With the staples, last time I grabbed them with some really fine needle nose pliers and heated them up red hot and then waited until the red had faded away. Sort of a minor heat treat adjustment? Then dropped them onto the part and they settled right into place. A quick wipe over with an old flathead screwdriver warmed up and the staples were fully covered and not visible - what I did then was open the crack up carefully until it was a V the entire length and then laid some black material in it and melted it again with the flathead. I used some filler that smoked the same when heated, it might not have been fully right but it was compatible. Apart from the line down the crack you could never tell it was not made like that.

What you've done there is perfectly fine though, just a little more labour to get the same result I would think.
