I have recently acquired a BSA hunter. Whilst it is a very nice rifle and a nice rifle to handle, it has three problems I would like some advice with:
1)The trigger is terrible like a cheap 22 trigger
I have googled the exploded diagrams and adjustment instructions but this one has a problem with the pull weight adjustment screw on the top of the trigger. Instead of a socket headed screw there is a very short ( only hole width long ) slot head grub screw. Removing one of the other screws and trying it as a replacement makes no difference to the 'pull'.
2) The firing pin mainspring was quite rusty with some pitting on the spring and striker rod. I have polished the rod with 1200 paper and cleaned up the spring. The spring looks a bit tired and I wonder if anyone would have one or could make a suggestion.
3) The half open bolt position is weak compared to the firm positive hold BSA rifles normally have. Is this solely due to the mainspring condition or could it be due to wear on the striker rod cocking piece ?
