Cheers for the photos. I Have just compared mine with yours, looking at the relative proportions of each. Mine has a slightly narrower point between the cocking lift and half bolt positions, although the half bolt indent itself does not look any shallower than yours. No vast difference so that would suggest a weak mainspring ??

Firing pins, Monarch extractor, complete Imperial action, Monarch receiver with trigger, Monarch receiver and a trigger with safety, and other bits such as complete Viscount 7x57 without bolt.

@Mathias isn’t that the truth! I’ve just finally got my little 6x45 feeding properly from the first round to the last. Some much buggerising around to get it to work with that BSA extractor and a lengthened mag box. Bloody lucky I got it nutted out, because tempers were getting frayed......

@Moa Hunter Try all new springs before you do anything ,they were renowned for crappy springs but you look at the age & what previous owners may have done with them is it any wonder

Did you have to some milling of action for the longer mag box?

Yes, the rear of the mag well gets lengthened and the bolt stop needs to be shortened to increase the bolt stroke. The hardest part is folding up a new mag box, takes quite a bit of trial and error to get right.

Would it be possible to give me an overall length for the mainspring on a med length action. I have a spare CF2 action that may have the same diameter spring I could cut to length ( haven't checked that yet).

Have a complete rebarrelled Hunter 222 minus bolt, use the bolt from my other Hunter, works but not ideal.

ok...so Im picking the shallow curve the striker? is sitting down on (looking at photo the way it is) is why the bolt "sits" nicely at half cock/bolt nearly all the way up and will stay there but not fire untill bolt handle is lowered,which looking at photo orientated the way it is will put the shiney bit over top of gap ,down the 45 degree bit to the right of the curvy indented bit its sitting in now??????????

Thanks for that Nick. So comparing yours as well as Tuidogs photos, mine is not drastically different which confirms the mainspring as the likely culprit.
I then only have to worry about the trigger.

Yes, when the bolt is lifted the 'shiny bit' climbs up the '45 degree bit' to 'cock' the action. The cocking piece then sits in the indent. Most bolt actions have a similar system but dont have such a positive indent as the BSA
