    DIY Leather Projects

As an alternative to watching crap TV with the wife over the last two winters I've put in a few hours making leather bits and pieces.

Keen to see if anyone else out there is doing anything interesting with leather?

Obviously @HNTMAD is a master, and @EeeBees does a bit as I've seen on his stickmaking thread

Here is a few bits I've done to kick it off. The shotgun cartridge belt almost broke me mentally and I'll never make another

    Tell me about it...

Your license pocket was very slick, i wasn't game enough for tackling a pocket so added a brass shackle in that spot to chain up the gun dog i don't have

Wow mate that belt really is something else, great work - the buckle for clipping on the dog is a damn fine idea ive not seen that before. Easier than tying a rope to your daypack strap

Looks like very neat stitching going on there, what equipment do you use and where do you source your leather from?

the stitching part is a ball ache - very time consuming and its not as neat as it looks.
all manually done and i use a few tools shown here, the wheel thing marks the hole spacing by leaving impressions on the leather and you then use the awl (spike tool) to manually poke each hole through the leather.
the punch tool is the fastest and neatest but you need straight lines for it to be effective.
then you get a length of heavy waxed cotton with sturdy needles threaded at each end and stitch through the holes in a figure of eight pattern until you feel like tossing the whole bloody thing out the window
i got it all from a company called Lapco here in NZ
