Managed to get the gel out pretty easily. Took 10 minutes and lost 200grams in weight, I then gave her a lick of paint and clearcoat. Needs a few days to dry properly but pretty happy with the outcome. The test will be the longevity of the paint but worst case I give it a light sand and coat in a couple of years. Went with a fleck in the paint rather then webbing just because it was more readily available in nz.

One thing I would say is if you are doing this stick with a matt clear coat. Bunnings didn't have any when I was there so got a satin finish, it looks nice but it's a little bit shiny. I think It will dull up a bit with use though.
