Elliot Model 5 tool and cutter grinder

This Elliot Model 5 tool and cutter grinder just arrived in time for a play during the long weekend

It came with an original dust extraction unit most of the original attachments

Now I need to learn how to drive it !
After I have managed to move it across the workshop and set it up
Good thing there are house guests for the long weekend

    Ok
Will ask you next time I want something @MSL

Do you have a Steel-fast die filing machine for sale ?

And any extras for the Elliot ?

This was the first machine in ages not from Hamilton !

    Do

I always wanted one but never quite got there. I made all my reamers from O1 silver steel on the lathe and mill and painstakingly sharpened them by hand. They are still working well, but I still wish I'd had a tool and cutter grinder! I am going to have to make a .44 Magnum reamer soon.

And lots of parts with it to work out like a jigsaw puzzle
Also came with a huge magnetic table as it was being mainly used as a surface grinder

That makes my little Clarkson T&C grinder look like a toy. Mine only came with a few accessories, and I have been slow at making the stuff im missing, so its of limited use at the moment. Though I did sharpen my table saw blade on it the other day. Worked sweet.

That will be awesome for making reamers and all sorts.

Have you seen Guy Lautards reamer flute sharpening and checking jig? It allows you to check that all the flutes are the same height and that you dont have a 5 flute reamer that is only cutting with 2 or 3 flutes. You can then setup to stone down the high flutes on the same jig and check it again. You can also do relief angles. PTG now make a nice version of it, though pricey. Looks simple enough to make, but would take some time.

@Sixty Ten I will have a decent look at that when I have time

I'm a long way off doing high end stuff like that
But do have a backlog of jobs waiting for this
I will start with the easy ones and learn the Elliot's ways

I'm just in from getting everything working as it should be
Re fitted the drive belt to the high speed spindle which had been disconnected because it was only being used as a surface grinder
Now I can test the internal grinding attachment

Well I'm hugely relieved because every part works and all the electrics are good
The motorised work head is great
And the bonus is that the original dust extraction unit with it is awesome
