    First proper stock build complete

    Hey team

I have finally completed my first attempt at a walnut stock. I was given a slab from a farmer mate and wanted to try my hand. It’s far from perfect, and a long way off some stocks on here but I’m pretty happy as a first attempt!

This is for my Browning T-Bolt .22

I made the whole stock using hand tools, chisels and files. The only power tool I used was to drill the action screw holes and to cut the blank outline

I really liked the spare mag in the stock from the synthetic stock, so managed to bring that across to this stock

The timber I used for the end cap looked much darker than it has come out. I made an axe handle from the same timber and with boiled linseed oil it came out a deep rose colour. With the tru-oil it has come out much lighter than I originally wanted. Topped with a classic Leupy Vari-x ii 2-7

    Now to the range

Great piece of work, well done
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

I'm pretty much a synthetic stock and stainless steel user. But your stock is a thing of beauty. Very nicely done.
Hope it shoots up to your expectations.

Good work man! I like how you've run the grain in symphony with the overall stock shape.

Ditto, but a schnabel would really make it stand out.

That looks beautiful! Crafting a stock like that is way harder than most people think, my father was a gunsmith and he almost never made furniture, too hard to get it perfect unlike working with steel, his comments. I am hoping to make something for one of my rifles as I can't seem to find anything for sale but it won't look anything like the one you made. Fully impressed.

So I finally got it to the range to give it a jam. I also gave it a basic JB weld bedding job too!
There was a bit of a cross breeze, and I was shooting off a pack. The angle was too steep to get properly comfortable, but I did my best. Pretty happy with the results. These are 10 round groups @50m. They would definitely tighten up if I was able to shoot off a bench, but these are still dead rabbits
It obviously likes the CCI better than the old Winchester
