Hey mate, so these dove tail fittings get ruined by people trying to install/remove by knocking the ring side ways, which is incorrect. The correct method is to "turn" the ring into the dove tail. Place the ring in sideways (opposite direction) and then simply twist, thats it. Yours could be buggard though if its been beat on. It looks OK in the photo, you should not have to join it. I will try get a couple of photos for you.
