Yep there are quieter for sure but without giving away the details of the design, used with shot they are really very quiet, using the high velocity slugs beats up the internal components and soon makes them not perform as well. That together with an extensively ported barrel that is choked leads me to say they are built for use with shot.

The market for these is really aimed at small blocks and orchards etc. the thing being close range and quiet with no risk of ricochet like a 22
