Havnt done a gun project for a while but thinking its about time to plan something. Basically looking at a rebarrel. Donor rifle is a mohawk 600 currently in 243. What are my options without having to fuk around with mag lips and bolt face. The rifle still is usable but i think accuracy is dropping off. It will be a budget build so a second hand barrel will be an option. Was thinking a fast twist 22 250 might be a bit of fun if it would work on that action...

Or a fast twist 250 Savage

A 358 Win. I did that to a 243 Winchester Mod 70 youth rifle. Great bush rifle that is awesome on big reds out to 250 meters.

A 257r and 220 swift interested me as well

220 Swift is too llong and too big a cartridge head for your stated action

I've got a 6.5CM barrel ( from a Bergara HMR, so a heavier contour than a normal sporter, but lighter than varmint) that could be fitted with very little work.

Hmm I know its a lot shorter but would a 6.5 grendel work in this action?

I think grendel is a different head size?

Personally I've always fancied a 220 swift but they are barrel burners

I'll also go the 358 win,
i recon they are good to 300 mtr with a 200 mtr zero. 13-15" drop at 300 mtrs,
but now finally after many years some of the copper bullet makers are coming out with lighter faster bullets that also have better BC's than the Nosler or Gamekings.
ie Hammer 196gr HHT at 2700fps and a BC or 0.435, ( should take a couple of inchs of drop off.)
and for bush hunting or plinking and learners I just run piston bullets ie 158 gr XTP's over trail boss at 23-2400 fps.

PS a 308 with simalar bullet weights will top out at 2550 fps ( but with better BC's)

You haven't given any indication of what you want to do with this new rifle?

Its based on a rem 600 so lean towards hunting I guess doesnt matter if its a barrel burner the amout I do these days. Definatley not trying to build a target rifle. Could even stick with 243 if I could find a barrel thats not shot out. I see gc has a 6x47 barrel but dont know much about those
