    Identify this action and barrel?

I picked up an old target rifle for cheap, to use as a project, for no special reason.

It has a very heavy fluted barrel which I have no use for, but just trying to figure out what other barrel may fit. The thread is about 1.06-1.08" (1 & 1/16th??) or 27.2mm. This measurement should be more accurate but thats what you get with $5 calipers from aliexpress. Its got a 16TPI thread. Would I be right in saying that this is the same as Rem700?

I don't know what the rest of the action is based off, I assume its custom made by someone. The front half of the bolt is M98 style with front lugs and mauser extractor. Anyone seen something like this before?

Thanks @akaroa1 that clears that up!
I have never seen these actions before now, and I had only been familiar with the Musgrave name in connection with ammunition and the 6mm Musgrave calibre.

Its just over an inch, so maybe a little large for a tikka barrel. Apparently rem700 is 1 & 1/16th

Looks to be 1 5/64 - 16 TPI so way bigger that you are likely to pick up something used to spin on
Unless you find something with plenty of meat on it to turn a new thread and cut a new chamber

Well its right on the line between 1 1/6th and 1 5/64th so you might get lucky with a M700 barrel

It has Lyttleton RSA engraved on the side.
Perhaps someone in Christchurch built it in the early 70's.

Can you show us the stock ?

I think the question has been well answered but Musgrove make great actions and the trigger is excellent.Mine in 6.5/08 is very accurate although a little heavy.
