Information on cutting barrel length on a 7mm rem mag

Been thinking for a while about this "super pig" concept and have a few questions around it

My barrel is fluted can I cut into the fluting or is that a no no?

I'm Running Hornady superformance ammunition for reference
What realistically is the shortest I can chop the barrel without affecting shot placement and muzzle flash?

Not planning on shooting further than 500m at the range and 400m max on the hill.

any input would be much appreciated!

Yes you can thread over fluting. You'll lose about 40 fps per inch you chop and you'll need yto recalibrate your drops to ensure shot placement. Muzzle flash will increase but who sees it hunting. As a range officer see quite a few people with a flinch. Guess what, it often comes with a short barreled magnum rifle, you need a fair amount of practise to shoot one well.

It is also hard on the suppressors , irrespective of brands when you go shorter .

Was running a 7 rem mag with an18inch barrel for a few years. Really liked it,was a bit punchy on the shoulder but only noticed it at the range not out hunting. The DPT suppressor tamed it nicely and handled the heat fine. Should never have sold it
