Question Legality of homemade A-Cat compliant firearms?

I thought it might be a fun hobby project to try put together a single shot .22 rifle, but I can't find anything solid on the legality. It's obviously illegal to make pistols and restricted weapons, but since A-Cats are unregistered, does anyone know if there would there be any problem?

    Cheers

You can make any sort of gun that you are licensed to own, including the pistols and other restricted weapons you seem to think you obviously can't. You just need a p2p for them the same as if you were buying them.
For a cat suff you can just make it, but you can't make it for sale unless you jump through some hoops.
It's not a bad idea to go talk to you arms officer first anyway if your unsure of where the boundaries are. Most of them are helpful sorts

This is probably a dumb question, but what is a P2P?

Just to clear up potential confusion, you don't need one for a cat firearms, even if you build it yourself.

I guess that would be fine, so long as you don't have a free standing pistol grip, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElgTP3c-XcQ

I was thinking of doing that and buying an upper and a barrel to save a few hundred on a brand new AR.
