Machining a throw lever for a Leupold VX-5HD - a question for those who have one.

With it getting increasingly hard to import anything, and the weather and water not really playing ball for hunting or spearfishing, I've been pottering around on the CNC router.

I've designed a throw lever for my Leupold scope, but want to know from others that have throw levers installed, just how thick they are?

I test cut in 3mm acrylic, as I had some lying around, and now want to cut the real one in acetal. As I'll need to buy the acetal sheet, I want to know if all the other throw levers out there are 8mm thick or thinner / thicker?

just measured a Vortex factory lever.

0.269 to 0.278 depending on where you take the measurement

the issue to watch out for is bolt clearance over the parts where the "sticky out" bits on the side...

I just use a Breakaway Coaster clip, it does not have any bits that stick out...

Excuse the awesome graphics skills, but here is something to consider...

Try making the slot where the red line is.

That way you will not have any bits sticking out around the circle.

Isnt the cutout needed to lock it on to the "tit" on the ring already?

Correct. The cutout is needed to give the lever the required grip to turn the zoom ring, so banging a bolt through there isn't an option on a Leupold VX-5HD. That method does work on other brands without the "nip" on the zoom ring.
I tried the test cut piece on the scope, and the bolt flange does not interfere with the bolt regardless of which way it's installed.
@ebf your graphics skills are more than adequate. Some engineers I deal with could learn a thing or two from you.

My Savage has a "rear baffle" that gets in the way

hmmmmm that looks rather practicle...the zoom rings can be a mongrel to get to at times...my scopes live on lowest power and only zoom up for long shot...thinking a small hose clip would do the same thing...give a bigger sticky out bit to get a grip on...maybe even a zippy tie would work???

They varied, but I think it was about 7 or 8mm. I'll check in solidworks tomorrow.

The 3D ones I sell have the Tit off to the side to avoid the issue with interfering with the bolt on low power....
