Mannlicher stock project
So I decided to have a stock made for my Sako 75 in .243 Winchester I have had a hankering for a sako Bavarian for ages but got offered 1000 as a trade in for the 75. So with 2800 to play with I would see what I could come up with.
Managed to find someone to do it not too far from home. He tried to start an account but failed so is posting on another forum
Rifle will end up 20" barell, deciding to creakote or just mil spec
Have a peep in the way and will fit a front sight too
Check out the progress here and will update with other mods as we go
Cheers

Von Gruff is a talented man, it will come out amazing I am sure.

Wow you will certainly have a very special rifle when that is finished!

That's going to be real nice

Can he do shotguns? Does he have a duplicator?
-
Have got the very end bit off a Sako fullwood carbine if you want it.

The first classic rifle that I ever laid eyes on, apart from the tomatoe stakes of the day was a Mannlicher 7x57 in a hut in the Urewera and I have had a hard on for them since that day. Thinking very hard about doing one for the Finnwolf.

Walnut it's always a pleasure to work with. Well follow with interest.

Wow, I can tell already I will be jeallouse with the final outcome
-
I've got one of his stocks in my safe, fit and finish is top rate.
-
What the ball park on cost for that stock? I gather he would charge less for a "normal" stock?
-
Stock really coming together now
This stock will end up around 1200
Depends on your blank and also hardware
Not sure how much extra labour involved in the Mannlicher, a bit, especially having the cheek piece
He fully going for a fitting on the weekend then just a couple weeks

I don't think he does it for profit
-
yeah, what MSL said
Garry is really passionate about what he does, loves making stocks and does a number of projects for himself
I was not trying to imply the cost was too high, given the effort going in its bloody good value

Ok fitting all done and as expected Garry lowered the top of the cheek piece to get a better fit for the peep sight
Bit of work to be done reshaping the pancake cheek piece and the just final finishing to come, guessing another few weeks and will be ready for installing front sight, barrel shortening and cerakoting
Really happy so far, by the looks of the samples Garty made up the final will be awesome. Apparently 2 other guys thought mannlichers would also be cool as they are ordering blanks:thumbsup:
No African hardwood though, pretty hard, will turn out real cool when polished though so glad I got in first
Couple of links some other projects Garry has done

Next step will be coating, tossing up mil spec vs cerakote
Mil spec 350sh but 6-8 weeks
Cerakote 500sh and hopefully quicker turnaround
Cheers
