Thread: Mauser 6mm Rem project build

Ive had a nice 98 Mauser action sitting about for some time. It had a nice custom safety installed and timney trigger. I later aquired an old 30's style stock from an 8mm sporter.
I was still trying to figure out what I wanted so I asked on the forum if anyone had any mauser barrels kicking around, and was rewarded with a magnificant donation of a parker hale 6mm Rem barrel from Tentman! Much kudos for paying it foward and I shall endevour to do the same.
I dropped off all these bits to Allan Carr a few days ago with the request: Please make barrel bits stick to action bit, make metal bits pretty and blued, and make metal bits fit in wood bits.
Hopefully in a couple of months there will be a re-creation of these bits into a nice light 6mm!

Yup. The tent meister helped me with a 270 barrel for my parker hale project.

@-BW- I have one of these, not sure what twist your barrel is but will shit over a .243 or creedmoor.

(I am limiting myself to using W760 because thats I have and I'm reluctant to buy something else just for one calibre..)
I am hoping to fling 95-100gr above 2900fps

Always had a soft spot for the 6mm Remington. Seemed to be an improvement on the .243 Winchester and should have been more popular for a number of reasons. I see it is listed on the Remarms website which I assume is the reincarnated Remington manufacturer. Perhaps they had some left over barrels.

Easy, the sierra 100grn game king @3000fps if 1-10 though if 1-12 will only stablise flat base bullets over 90grn.

It is done!

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Will fit scope and head to the range at the next available opportunity.

I would expect there to be a small advantage . . What's your experience ?

Nice. I’m pretty sure I saw that in the gunsmiths workshop last week when I picked up my .223 action.
I too have a soft spot for the 6mm Rem, enjoy it!

On average around 100fps for a given bullet weight, getting a chrony and drop validated 3000fps with 100gn Hornady Sp out of a 20" .243, so it's all a bit relative really. Out to say, 350yds, nothing in this country walking away from that. Same sort of difference as with 7mm08 vs 280 Remington.

This seems to be the biggest hinderance for the chambering.
