Thread: Mounting deer heads

Cheers slideshow, I flicked through all of his YouTube clips. Some great info in there for sure.

Yes none of my heads will win a beauty comp, but that ugly one is one of my favorites, as its actually a pure wapiti (shot in the North Island, farm escape in a area with no deer). He was an urban legend, occasionally been sighted like "big foot" or the fiordland moose!

There were actually 4 of them, but over a decade three out of four were shot. The fourth one was thought to be dead as it was at least 18 year's old.

One day a mate called me up and said he had heard a weird sound out the back of his farm in the Doc land behind. I thought it may just be the fourth wapiti, so didn't waste any time and got out there with a rifle. It took all day, with an early blundered attempt when he winded me, but that sighting keep me interested and eventually about 5 hours later I managed to track him down again and get him!
