Lignum vitae
Noice!!
You couldn't have found anything heavier?
When I was an apprentice we used to turn bearings for the screw conveyors at the sugar refinery out of lignum vitae, the wood came from the stern bearings from the old interisland ferry Maori.
Lovely work, and I'd expect you'll never wear it out.....
On to it , Ross.
Dad was the slip boss at Lows slipway in Auckland many moons ago.
This piece would have been left over from a stern bearing job on?
I have enough left for another handle.
Amazing wood ,translucent to a degree.
I had a set come out of the lathe one day, how it didn't tear my head off I'll never know.
