Old Webley and Scott single barrel 16g

I think this is an early model 100 by the look of the serial number it has seen better days but doing up as it’s a shame not to use it.
Brought it from large chch gun shop which advertised it as 20g but not the case as it’s 16g so my thoughts are
Do I use it as 16g and looks to be 2 1/2” chamber or shall I insert it down to 20g 2 3/4” or just use an adapter.
Even thinking of fitting modern 20g barrel just have to see if there is something around I could use as I can make
Parts to suit this old gal.
Any advice or thoughts on this project would be appreciated as this old gun deserves a few more outings.
    Cheers

I’m thinking that better option is to make a permanent insert in 28 gauge as 20 might be a bit to thin wall for my liking so I reckon that’s the plan and redo the ejector, wasn’t keen on reloading 16gauge 2 1/2” and seem to be unavailable or that’s what it looks like.
Should make a nice little bunny gun.

I would shoot 16 ga - buy a loader and have at it.

Nostalgic shotgun in nostalgic calibre . Shoot paper cases and black powder to really immerse yourself in the history

Never done any reloading before sounds good, thanks for the reply and I will have to think about it and see what’s involved.

All good but where do you source 16g hulls. I'd like to get my 16g damascus double going again but my Eley hulls are long gone.

25 of those are all you will need
Best not to load BP and store them for ever anyway.
Get the correct engineers punch for wool felt wads and cards
It you use the brass hulls and BP you will never need to resize the cases once you've got them to fit the first time

Roll some up and go shoot
Much easier that sleeving to another gauge

With brass cases if you buy commercial card or felt wads make sure they're for brass cases as wads designed for plastic or paper hulls are too small they're for thicker walked plastic or paper.
Also rather than roll crimping the brass use a drop or 2 of nail polish to hold the card over shot wad in place

I had a lot of fun running a 16 gauge Swedish rolling block with the Magtech brass cases and shooting shot and ball loads

I learned a lot about running BP in a big case
I did make and use a taper crimp die for holding the patched round balls in place over powder and wads to bring the ball to the correct location

But with shot a tight over shot card and a little glue would certainly be kinder on your brass.

A BP 16 gauge 2 1/2" single shot would be quite a fun little gun for walking up bunnies

With my BP reloads (12g and 16g) I just used an overshot card and then a ring of PVA glue (as in the above post). With my double barrels I never had the second barrel overshot wad jar loose (and have that unmistakeable sound of the shot running out of the barrel).

My cousin, who at the time was an excellent gun club shooter, used my 16g in one of our championship shoots and was up there with the 12g shooters. The skill level I'll admit made the difference.

I had a bad experience with leaving shotshells loaded with BP for a long period (read a few years). When I came to retrieve them from my dry storage all I had left was gooey messes. The hulls had disintegrated down to the bases. So, I lost all my 12g and 16g cases including my good Eley hulls for my 16g.

I think I need to see what reloading gear I need or what I can make, thanks for comments.

Looks pretty straightforward I will have to give it a try, never needed to before but I’m for having ago and will just make up punches for the felt. The videos are helpful.
    Cheers all.
