Thread: rifle racks (fancy)

Hi fellow "ghastly gun people"

I have been putting off for too long the hanging of my rifles on the wall.

I want to make a really discrete wall hook, something that is fixed to the wall behind the rifle to minimise its visual existence....

Before I go and waste a bunch of time (the kids keep playing with it and loosing it) with trial and error etc, I thought I would try my luck here first for ideas.
The internet has mostly a bunch of the same stuff that I have found so far.

Hope someone has a crafty solution for me, otherwise Ill happily tinker away one day....

A 'stout room' or a steel purpose-built cupboard is vastly better as it not only complies with the law but also keeps the guns out of sight (which is the very best security). Guns visible to nosey-parkers or window-peepers only makes you a target for theft.

I totally agree, but I want my hooks to be less or an eye sore when the rifles are on the wall.
I am over complicating it, but I want it to look nice.

Ah, the wall that the guns are on will not be accessible....

Just to clear up a bit of confusion, these hooks are to hold the rifle on the wall only, not to secure it against theft at all.
So I want the hooks to be nice and discrete, well as much as can be.

buy some (or get some made) clear plastic hooks. try fab plastics in chch to see what they can supply, good buggas to be sure

I hear ya, but I really dont like the plastic ones.

I use the brass-plated screw-in hooks that hardware stores sell. The large size can be easily bent to match the stock/barrel contours and can be painted brown or black as appropriate so they don't stand out like dog's balls.

Super magnets epoxied into a concave wooden mount screwed onto the wall (drill hole through wooden block and split to make two holders).

You know what else sucks about my problem....
I am guaranteed to screw the hooks into the wall, then hang the guns, then stand back and realise they are in the wrong spot.

That's where your wife comes in handy. "left a bit, bit more, bit more, too much, back a bit, up a bit, no down a bit! Here I'll hold it & you have a look". We've all done it!

Surely you could whip up some hooks and shit like this system?

Yeh, you could knock that out in a coupla hundred hours.
Some thinking has sure gone into that design

We use these guys for a lot of hooks, handles and shit at work. Might be worth a browse.

yUp, that is cool. But I dont want to put that ply stuff on the wall.
