@40mm have you got a welder? If you do, some bits of wire and 30mm strap bent to shape, then painted, and some heatshrink over the bits that will touch the rifle perhaps?

Identify your target beyond all doubt
All very good ideas chaps.
But I am keen on the hooks etc being as invisible as possible.
I want to see the rifles on the wall with minimal mounting hardware visible.
Use enough gun
Velcro dots??

Do you have QD sling swivels on them at all?
Old school types, not the flush mounted ones?
That gives you something to float the fore-end on at least.
Dont reckon they would be much good for both.
Too wobbly
@40mm. The simplest I can think of is a 'L' hook mounted horizontally, the hook entering the muzzle. Black shrink wrap the tip, paint the shaft of the 'L' hook same as your wall.
And a similar hook mounted through the trigger guard in such a way it both holds the gun up and also keeps it going backwards off the front 'L' hook. Again, be creative blending them in with those little tins of Humbrol left over from doing AirFix planes, tanks and Bofors when you were a boy.
An itch ... is ... a desire to scratch
Could always have a cantilevered system.
A standard hook just forward of the trigger guard (or wherever the center of gravity is)
Then you could just have a small pin above the barrel...
Could probably even find a plastic rod a similar colour to your walls. Or a plastic sleeve for a metal pin.
