    Rust Bluing Solution

    I can't find any here and no one seems able to ship to NZ? Home recipes so far seem to either have hydrogen peroxide in them or require me to buy a lot of ingredients when I'm only doing one rifle.

    What is everyone using?

    When I had rust come through on my old rifle, I just got it cerakoted. The colour that it was done in looked essentially the same as the original blueing. The other plus is that it is way more durable than blueing and protects against rust better

    I had a look at a cerakoted rifle, nice but I prefer the look of the original rust blue - particularly for the job at hand. Garyp sorted me out with solution

    I bought an old book years ago about dozens and dozens of home made recipes for bluing solutions and how to apply them. It must be buried somewhere in stuff I left in Scotland.
    I don’t remember the tittle, but at least it exists.

    @Rambo-6mm has the best recipe

    The old recipes are really difficult to use because of the different names they used

    But I will have a look for one that maybe doable

    Here's one out of Roy F Dunlap's book (c 1950). Know nothing about it, effectiveness, difficulty getting chems etc.
    He also wrote screads on prep.

    It's a bit daunting because there are 80 pages of recipes
    Maybe 100 different ones
