    Sako Vixen Open Sights

Finally decided to give the old treble 2 a tidy-up.
Before I get the barrel and action ceracoated, I am going to remove the front and rear ramp. Ive seen a you-tube video where they get sweated off but I don't like the idea of isolated heat on the barrel so the other alternative is to turn them off in a lathe, which I reackon would be do-able.
Just wondering if anyone has done this and whether its as straight forward as I think it is?

Have taken a few off, use a small tip and only heat the sight.

If you don’t end up wrecking them on removal can I buy them off you?
Trying to go the other way and put mine back to original.

Thanks, will proceed carefully. They're not the full sights Shootm, just the front and rear ramps but if theyre any good to you, you can have them

There will be very little heat and possibly a little less than when they were originally fitted, Its only solder. That's why its done that way in the first place. Make sure there isn't a hidden screw under a sight blade or such.
you only need enough to make them fall off. Not sure about getting rid of the excess solder-quick wipe with a piece of leather maybe?

No problem. I'll get them off first and see what condition they're in

Failing this i had a set of mint sights on my A1 that I sold to a forum member. I believe he is getting it rebarelled and the sights may be up for grabs ... as of a month ago it was at D Maiseys for the work. PM me for their details.

great idea. Does enough of it come off so the bare section can be reblued or does it need further treating?
My 270 project already has the sight off in this manner but there is a patch of the solder left

I felt the same way after using a 7x57 and then switching to a suppressed .223 and never looked back... since then I bought a Sako A1 .222 and then needed its brother L461 .222

I have a few other calibres aswell but I do love the smaller calibres

On a side note anyone got a set of iron sights they are not using for a Vixen and want to move on?
