Thread: A singleshot.22 to fit the boy

I have had a Slazenger .22 single shot in the safe for years, I got given it by a family friend 20 years ago, it wasn't the tidiest, and had an incomplete bolt.
I tidied it up and put it away thinking I will find a bolt for it one day. Sentimental value stopped me from dumping it.

Anyways as my boy has started having a go with my old single shot .22 we take away on camping trips etc. and doing pretty well with it I wanted to get him his own . I scored a little Gecado a while back but it turned out it is missing its ejector... (Might have that sorted yet)
Anyways leap forward to this weekend just been and we drop into the new local gun shop for a nosey, The first rack in the store houses the cheap and rough looking trade in rifles, First in the row is a Slazenger .22 single shot, scruffy stock but an ok Barrel and bolt.
After twisting my wife's arm a few times my wallet is a bit lighter and the .22 comes home with us.


It is a full size stock, my boy is 7... A bit of quick research into LOP for kids, a few measurements and trials on cardboard and a measurement is obtained.
A quiet evening at work sees me with a few hours spare to have a play with the cut off saw, a rasp and some sandpaper. The stock loses 70mm off the butt and I thinned up the grip quite a bit too so his little mitts can hang onto it a bit better.


A quick sand down, not too fussy as it had a few bigger imperfections, A splash of Rustic Oak furniture stain and that'll do. I may thin the grip a bit further. The barrel is still full length, I can't justify the cost of getting it shortened and he will lose the front sight if I was to cut it.


When he is bigger I will square the butt off and add a pad to lengthen the stock again, and later on again he can use the stock from my old Slazenger.
2 Rifles, one bolt... Bugger.
