Gents and ladies - I've a sks as my goat/knock around gun, its got a utg dustcover/rail replacement on it. I've shimmed the rear to stop movement, but still have a tiny bit of sideways slop - any clever clogs out there been there fixed that?

Not sure there is much to be done with those dustcover jobs. I am getting one of these side mounts.

Defiantly get a side mount. Yes they do have to be drilled and tapped, I did mine myself.

The only issue with most side mounts is that it prevents stripper clips being used...which is the main advantage of the sks. The dust cover mount and a compact scope still allow the striper clips to be used. A little movement, provided not excessive won't actually effect accuracy all that much, I was worried about this too...but notice no appreciable difference on paper.

Does anyone make a reciver that has a rail built into it that you could buy and just swap it with the factory one?
Right after a whole lot of research I've decided on going the best of both worlds.
I'm going to get a side piece, like a overhanging tab welded to my dust cover mount, and then tap the receiver to bolt the tab too - that way I don't loose what I've spent - but get the rigidity of a side mount.

I have some AK / Saiga / SKS mounts that look like these (two piece). The receiver needs tapping etc to fit. I got them for a load of NHM-90s. $55 per set and $6 courier if required. I have 4 sets left.

This was the best solution I found for the sks, a compact 3-9x40 scope mounted on dust cover. The dust cover*comes oversized, you file it to fit...so with a little skill you can get a pretty tight fit.

Note, the striper clips still work with this set-up which was really important to me, as that was the entire point of me owning an sks, because at the time I owned one I didn't have an E endorsement...so the sks was the best alternative to get fast reloading, without breaking the law and at a price that didn't break the bank.

Sweet - done much the same.
I have a very simliar one to you kimjon - except the rail has a channel so you can look through to the factory sites. Also using a small pistol scope like your setup.
Over the weekend I had a stainless plate welded to the dust cover, and then drilled and tapped to the receiver - rock solid now!

I also have these. They are made for the largest size, so you just need to file down the prongs to fit (about 2mm for Norinco SKS). $55, $6 courier if required.

Had a SKS a few years back, same problem with the dustcover mount and sideways slip. Couple of spots with the arc welder and a spot of black paint fixed the problem................ It was never pretty to start with.
Hi bud, just wondering if you have any of those SKS twin rail side scope mounts left? I'd be keen on one.
