    Stock refinishing

For the past few years I have been putting together a 308NM rifle. Finished said rifle a while back and fitted it to a quality custom fibreglass stock that was finished in black. Not liking the somewhat shiny plain black finish I sanded it back a bit and painted it with a Dulux rattle can, that stone look 3 colour stuff. All was good until I had it out hunting a couple of times over the Xmas break and bugger me my nice looking stock has areas where the finish has worn back to the black again. Looking for advice as to how to make the rattle can finish more durable - do I sand the stock first with a coarser sandpaper to give it something to stick to? do I need to use a fibreglass specific undercoat or primer first? do I lacquer over the finish with a matt lacquer?

A guy I used to chat with at the range sprayed his glass stock with a very light spritz of underbody sealer, tough as. Can’t remember what his prep involved though, and he’s buggered off back to Oz now. It did seem to be very hard wearing, and the spritz approach made it look quite matt/textured

Cerakote or Duracote your best option. I've had a glass stock done and it's tough as. No wear even from the gun rack on the 4 wheeler.

Did you have to prep it first for them? or just send it on up? Will be shopping in the NI Andy, not keen on local........

Yep I prepped it with a 2 pot epoxy primer and sanded it back with 120, which suited the coating. Yep go north.

Sorry that should be 180 grit, not 120.
Not too fine as they normally garnet blast before coating.
