Stock refurb bell and carson

So a wee while back I scored a damaged Bell and Carson stock off me good mate @Ryan_Songhurst
She had good bones (alloy chassis) and a nice figure (raised check piece)
But had been subject to a bit of over zealous sanding from a previous refurb.

I sent it away to a local plastic and fiberglass repairer who filled in the previous sins and coated the whole outside with a heavy duty rubberized grippy finish.

Once I was happy with that I set about bedding a spartan flush cup in the fore to fit my javelin bipod and qd flush cups in the side of the stock for my qd slings.

After all the extra bits added in I sent it back to have the rubberized coating touched up.
Whilst that was being done I did a little research on different coatings I could use to customize the finish to try and get something close to the effect on my fierce fury stock as pictured below

I came across a product called dulux marble effect in a spray can.

I practiced a few quick tests on a piece of old textured plastic, this stuff comes out like silly string :D
Then I did a quick coat of my stock, I reckon its come up pretty damn good.
Will post more pics once the paint has fully cured and the action is torqued back into the stock.

I think I'm going to resist the urge to put the action back into the stock tomorrow and put a few coats of matte clear over the finish to help protect against premature wear.

All back together it's been a while :D I only posted the refurb thread yesterday but this has been a month or 2 getting sorted.
Hopefully I can make time in the next week to finally start load development again.
It looks a little glossy in the pics but it definitely isn't it's just the artificial lighting.
I'll get a better pic outdoors under natural lighting conditions.

Looks good Danny.

I quite like it, the dura max does break the outline. Only thing is that someone who doesn't know otherwise would think that you have just run through Mirkwood Forest or that you got over excited when reassembling the rifle

yip that has come up nice indeed....go the mighty poohseventy.

Here's a natural light pic, blends into the boulder really nicely and breaks up the outline.
Unfortunately due to a broken firing pin I can't get on with load development as I would have liked to, until I can find a replacement :psychotic:

Rough bugger

After buying this rifle in August and only putting a few shots through it before the firing pin broke, I finally got to the range this morning.
5 shots including first off a cold bore all off the javelin bipod.
The timney trigger and DPT suppressor make this rifle incredibly easy to shoot.
This is with sako 140gn game heads factory ammo.
1/2 moa.
Not bloody bad for factory ammo and feeling pretty relieved after all the hiccups in getting this beast together.
Can't wait to start load development when I get some days off :cool:

Out of interest sake,
The sako ammo claimed 2917fps on the box.
I recorded a average speed of 2918fps over 5 rounds with a spread of 30 fps.
Not bad for factory ammo

Glad you got it all sorted in the end,so you found a complete SS Cocking/firing pin assembly to use?I really like that stock finish so make sure you do a follow up on how it wears, as l will do one of my stocks in the same if it wears OK .

I got a complete firing pin from the Winchester distributor in Auckland in the end.
I have put a few coats of matte clear over the stock to help resist wear. the finish is really nice and grippy. your welcome to have a look if you are not too far away I am based in North Canterbury :thumbsup:

What company did you use for the rubber coating? How much did it cost roughly?

Im looking to have a stock coated the same way.

I played around with plasticote rubber spray and it stays kind of tacky, even though its fully cured.

That is wicked post cuz...
