Superdiver’s carl gustav 6.5

About 2 weeks ago now i was talking to @superdiver on Messenger
The conversation turned to this rusty old carl gustav 6.5 he had sitting in his safe and that he would never use it so I could have it if I wanted (im not one to say no to an offer like that )

He sent me some pictures and explaned that it used to belong to to a farmer mate

It was easy to see it was pretty rough however I have a fair amount of experience cleaning up rifles
So I wasn’t worried

A couple weeks later I manned to catch up with superdiver
And take the rifle off his hands along with his 308 which im going to do some loading for

The 1st job was to get rid of the rust and all the old blueing (what was left of it)
The wire wheel on the bench grinder made short work of it
And a bit of butch wood casy blue and rust remover and a brush for the tight spots

I like the wire wheel as it takes all the rust and blue off without damaging the steel so leaves it ready for blueing With no other prep
I thought before i refinish the steel I would give the bore a good clean as it was filthy
After half an hour of scrubbing by hand I pulled out the heavy artillery

To my Surprise the bore (all 16 inches of it) isn’t too bad and it should still shoot nicely

I then reblued useing butch wood casy super blue
I know cold blue isn’t the best but I have a fair amount of experience with it and find I get a good finish

Next was to do something with the stock Originally planed just to tidy it up and give it a couple of coats of black
But then i spyed this stuff

It reminded me of this HS precision finish

Was told it wouldn’t stick to plastic without primer
So I brought a silver primer+paint
Thinking it would be hidden by the top coat anyway

After a couple of coats of matte clear coat to give it some extra durability

Certainly different and tbh I reckon it’s quite cool
Just come out a little bit more slilver than expected I think due to the base coat

I reckon its a neat finish just need to find out how it handles use

Looks good I like the paint, does it come in other shades ? I will have a glass stock to repaint shortly I reckon I'll give it a go with a black or dark green primer

@dannyb I think it comes in a brown Colour also not 100 %sure
The other thing you could do is coat it with that then a black top coat as it’s quite gritty and does need something over the top to make it less aggressive (other reason for a couple of coats of clear in my case) bu you could do another Colour over the top and just use the granite stuff for texture/grip

You don't see alot of those rifles around anymore.... thousands of them were bought into the country and sold off back in the mid 90's and i often wonder where they've all gone.

I've used that spray on granite before and wished i'd been told it needed a primer as the person who gave you that info was right... it won't hold without being primed and also glad that you've sealed it aswell.

man you sure have given it a birthday and a half......look forward to seeing a range report. it looks like it will be a great carry rifle.

I love the Swedish 6.5x55’s and have a few in my small collection. If you need some brass yell out. Happy to Pm you with my personal loads, provided you accept all responsibility for what you create charge wise.

Sanded the stock with 150g to scratch it up And cleaned with Alcohol
Then from left to right one coat metallic aluminium (bad choice as a base maybe) a quick sand (lightly) Then 3 coats of duramax as per instructions then 2 coats of the matte clear

Be sure to wipe of the dust after sanding

That would be much appreciated, thankyou. I've got a 1/2 bottle of Tetra left and have done a grind on the bolt of a brno fox and trimmed the mag well for a 3 shot mag.

Blueing prosess @Tuidog
I use buchwood casy super blue
Apparently it’s stronger than other options But you’re stuff should work but may require more coats

1st remove all rust and finish from the parts part or Area you were going to re blue
I like a wire wheel on my bench grinder (be gentle) just get it back to bright steel and no more
For smaller parts birch wood casy blue and rust remover is bloody good just follow the instructions

Don’t polish the parts the finish a wire bush leaves is perfect as long as you haven’t put deep scratches or gouges in it

Clean the parts with alcohol it is very important that the parts are free of any trace of oil or Greece even the oil for your hands can affect it so I suggest you Wear gloves

Wet a small rag with you blueing Solution And wipe the parts you want the parts to be damp with the solution

Let the parts dry for about 5 minutes If it’s hot it will be quicker
I actually put mine on the heater
As the solution drys you will see a thin film of Oxidation (Rust) forming on the Surface sometimes white sometimes brown
Once you have a very thin film over the hole part

Wipe the film of with 0000 steel wool (it doesn’t take much)
After you take the film off You can now see the colour
Clean the part with Alcohol again and repeat the prosess
Keep repeating the cycle until you reach the Colour you want you want
And do it one more time for luck as it cures a little lighter

Normally 3-4 cycles of clean, Solution, wait for the film, wipe with steel wool, clean and repeat

Once you’re happy coat with a good rust Preventing oil use gun oil
Not crc or anything silly i use lucas clp

Keep it wet with oil for a couple of days as the steel absorbs a lot of oil and if it drys out it will rust and ruin the work

Tip: for smaller parts such as screws i dip them in the Solution just pour some in the lid of the bottle
Let the Solution drip off then let dry

Tip 2: don’t do to much at once better off to do your parts in batches otherwise you end up leaving solution on to long etc etc It just gets stressful

What’s the geuss on speed people
I got given 40 rounds of factory ammo 20 federal and 20ppu Not in original boxes but looking at them id say 140’s
Keeping in mind it’s got a 15-16 inch barrel Suppressed

Its in getting thread changed from 5/8x24 To 1/2x20 can do this without shorting the barrel further and
It was alot cheaper than new suppressor

Once its back I’ll run it over the crony
So just a bit of a friendly contest to see the best Geuss
I’ll start im thinking 2100fps for the ppu
And 2000fps for the federal

Good job on the clean up. I love those Swedes I only have three of them at the moment, yours looks like it might have been a M-94 what's the date on the receiver?
