    Taps and dies

    Hi again,
So I need a couple of taps for a project. Can anyone suggest where is a good place to get em from?

    Cheers, 40mm

They can also be made, if you have the time and inclination.
I need 3/8 BSPT and 3/4 BSPP. Both taps, thats a common thread right?
I have to check through my brothers stuff in the container, but I am sure he wont have the 3/4

Both so common they may as well be called Smith, once you have a proper look you will find them easily. Every engineering supply joint in the country will have them.

Yeah, I see they are common. Just wondering if there are any shitty brands to stay away from etc.

    Good luck with the flamethrower.

Carbide NZ. Their Volkel (german I think?) taps are good price and excellent quality - much better than the Irwin taps I'm slowly replacing in my set.

Second this. Prices are good and great quality. Shipping is reasonable and very fast turn around (I usually get stuff the day after I order it in Auckland)

I actually made my own tap a little while ago. I needed M8x0.75 tap for one hole during lockdown, so I turned it on the lathe from drill rod, then mounted in a collet block and cut 3 flutes in it with a ball nose end mill, then hardened, tempered and polished the cutting edges. Worked a treat and only took about an hour to make.
