or dont bother with the rebarrel at all.....all three of those calibres have been doing what you ask for years....yip the .308 will need a bit of kentucky windage or dial up out at 400.....yip the EBRG is getting marginal and will need good shot placement ...and yes 7mm-08 is no good if you like regular coffee and not frothy soy lattees but other than those wee issues,is there any MAJOR real world gain changing to 260???

For the Right money I could save you a build.. although its a rifle I would regret parting with..

    6.5SLR
Lone Peak Titanium SA with 20 MOA Rail
    16.75 inch Bartlein 2B barrel M15 Tread
Hawkins Custom floormetal with Wyatt long action Mag insert.
Bix N Andy Single stage trigger
Manners EH-8 in Black Forest bedded action. Grove QD Sling inserts - left side. Javelin Bipod Stock Insert.
Hawkins 30 Custom Hybrid Rings with 20 MOA
    Whidden Custom Dies

    Currently running Amax 130s @ around 2800 - round count > 150...

Weight is 2.7kgs bare rifle - bear in mind the Bartein 2B is a truck axle and its not fluted, although short.

Current replacement component cost $6800, add another $500 plus for chambering and bedding, and thats the cost of a new build with this spec...

One of the best triggers produced. Let off is more consistent than others and it is the choice of some of the best benchrest shooters on the planet. Not as fussy as say a Jewell in dirty or Dusty conditions.

    Very predictable

over the years I've had most 6.5 Cal and now I'm back at the sako.260.
The 6.5-06 and the AI version need a 24" barrel to get the most out of them, then I did a 20" 6.5-284 and struggled to get much over 2800fps with 130grn.
Then a Tikka .260 in both 18" and 20" both doing over 2800 fps with 143 grn.
And now I've only gone to a Sako carbon light .260 because it came up. It shoots no better than the Tikka but is nicer to use.
So I would stick with a .260 or a Creedmoor.

I have a Bartlein 2B barrel on my 6.5 06 and yes it's a little [all 27 inches of it] heavier than the Finn barrel or the 06 barrel or the 9.3 barrel or the ...
    However by crikey it's accurate.
    Cheers Cam.

I did something similar to my tikka .223 where I put on a CF stock, lighten this, lighten that but in the end had I have just bought a Kimber .223 I would have had a lighter and cheaper rifle.

Have you looked to see what’s available from manufacturers in your price range... what about a Forbes rifle?

Does it have to be a .260? I have a Kimber 7mm-08 that’s a tack driver the kids use out to 300 mtrs no problems

to be fair no I haven't looked as I was not intending to buy just yet, more just researching so when the time comes I can make an informed decision.
reasonably set on a 260 just because it's an itch I want to scratch.....who knows in 6 months time

I forgot I've had a Kimber .260 very nice and light but I hated the safety so out that went, then came a Forbes .260 shot awesome and super light but I wanted a more duel purpose range come hunting rifle. I was also worried about the stock finish chipping off so sold it before it did, but it was an awesome rifle carry weight and a great trigger.
