    Tikka barrel swap

Hey guys, getting geared up to do a barrel swap on my Tikka the, barrel is on its way and I'm thinking I'll probably need a barrel clamp/vise. Any recommendations?

The wheeler barrel clamp, allot block looking device with some plastic inserts that you out in a bench vise looks like it could do the business?

You need an action wrench setup, that's not really the right one for a bolt action barrel change

Have seen it done with a big wrench on the Tikka Reciever with some brass shims and a cheater bar.

That's kind of what I was thinking, may need revising

She'll be right, it's just glorified pipe fitting

Take a look at workshop innovation or call him to see what he's got, or brownells? Ideally there is also a Tikka action bit for fitting inside action to torque up correctly.

Think by the time you get proper gear easier to get a gunsmith to do it. Tikkas are known to be hard to "crack".
I used to use that barrel clamp you have for changing muzzle devices was good.

Tikka s are the easiest to take appart.specifically on the t3 where they put anti seize compound on the threads from the factory.

Most Remingtons are ok. Some of the old howas can be really hard.

Also I'll be using a go gauge to set headspace rather than torque.

Yeah it's a t3 so hopefully not too bad. Anti seize is a good idea, I'll have to remember to put some on the new barrel thread.

So I probably can't call this a home project anymore

Ended up taking it to Hardy Rifle Engineering and they swapped the barrels over for me, headspaced the new to me barrel and even re did the engraving so it was in the right spot.

The new to me barrel is a bit fatter than the original Tikka lite one so out cane the Dremel to widen the barrel channel and she fits perfectly, floating all the way to the end.

Just waiting on dies and projectiles and I'll start doing some loads up for it early next week.
