Thread: Tikka T3 Tactical (2004) barrel reverse taper question

I've just purchased a Tikka T3 Tactical (one of the older ones) in .308 with a 24" barrel.

The interesting part is that the barrel starts thick at the receiver, then tapers down (like usual) then tapers back up again for about the last 3" to the muzzle.

Has anybody had experience with the T3 Tactical?

My big question to any of you Smiths out there is; I'm wanting to cut this down to 16", do you think given this different taper profile, cutting it down will adversely affect accuracy?

Might have been done to maintain a thick profile near the muzzle. Some thin barrels and especially tunny threads allow the bore to open up a little. Ideally you want the bore at the muzzle to be the tightest

The theory behind it is the increase in weight near the muzzle reduces the harmonics - whether you believe that or not??? Chopping the tube down will result in a stiffer tube anyway so it should not result in a worse effect.
