Still need to trim the the grip and comb/butt areas down, just threw some wood polish on to see what the grain and colour might end up like. It's looking promising as I really prefer darker wood.

What timber you using, and how are you shaping and I letting ? Hand tools / router ?

Starting from scratch has its benefits as I've been able to add extra length of pull (I have longer arms than a gorilla!) a touch of cast off for myself being right handed and maybe some wundhammer? swell to the grip- although I'm undecided regarding the last feature as it doesn't seem to be lending itself to the longer swept grip...

The wood is walnut obtained off an old gunsmith friend of mine.
Tools are a combination of:
- a drop saw, to get rid bulk wood and get some nice straight cuts in places,
- round, half round and rectangle wood rasps
- orbital sander with 40 grit for peeling back layers and general shaping,
- router for inletting,
- round, half round and rectangle metal bastard files
- finer half round metal file,
- vivid pen for rough marking and to help show where the limit of one operation should end,
- pencil for finer marking,
And finally a nice easy chair to sit and ponder every step and it's general look. (I'm about to undergo surgery on my eye hence why I have an abundance of spare time!)

What calibre is the rifle?

Bloody amazing! I can't even think straight, let alone cut, rasp and inlet.
How the hell do you get it looking the same on both sides?

6mm Remington. Shoots m.o.a and feeds nicely from the action being tapered more than a .243 case.
I take a lot of time to just look at the stock to see if it looks right, which can be hard when you're not patient. Do quite bit of measuring. Also compare to other stocks that have features that I like or don't.
Practise makes perfect too! Great to see it come together.

Did you get the idea from this? This is my project. I went to the range the other day - Shoots sub moa, well out of the 3 shots 2 were touching at 100yards. I'll be putting the 6.5 x 55 to the test on game soon. Watch my space.
