Anyone use Hornady CX 139gr in 7mmO8? thoughts?

    Hi all,
Thinking of buying some 139gr CX and reloading for 7mm O8. My .223 loves the CX just thought i’d live dangerously and ask the internet what it thinks before i splash the cash.

Also of anyone has a part box they want to move on let me know a price or I could trade a hand full of 154gn SST.

If you have no luck tracking down your copper, look into the Nosler 120bt

From my experience in .270w you MAY well be better off going lighter so can push faster for better expansion. If you don't you will gain nothing over cup n core other than the debatable loss of meat from lead. Without getting into that can of worms, there is little else to gain over std cup n core projectiles, more penertration= less expansion no matter how you achieve it.

I guess the 139gn will be a bit too slow out of a 70&, especially if bbl has been shortened. Need to drive any of the solid Cu projectiles at 3000 fps or more. +1 for the 120gm NBTs

Thanks for the feedback chaps. The Nosler BTs were on my radar too. How do they go on the bigger Redskins?

I Came from using 139sst for years with no complaints. But couldn't source any during covid times so made the jump. The 120bt just seems to kill better (ive only ever shot it out to 300m). With noticeably less recoil which is nice. Shot my biggest stag with one, a thick mature otago stag (which I think was the only time I didn't get a full pass through) instant death. Definitely give them try

You need to have speed to make any copper bullet work.

Tried the 139CX in my 16" 7mm08. Very accurate but was getting slow kills on Roe deer when it was not a CNS (Central Nervous system) debilitaiting shot.

If you can get speed up (at least 2800 fps MV) then go for it. I've sourced an M7 7mm08 with a slightly longer barrel just so I can give this a whirl again if needs be.

Personally hate copper bullets and would never use them voluntarily but unfortunately Europe (although the UK isn't supposed to be in it anymore) has gone woke with the net zero/lead free ammo/don't eat meat/ cows and farmers bad for the Earth milarkey.
