Replacing a main spring in a bolt action rifle is no big job, and can help with tired old guns that are having problems setting off primers. For many people (or their gunsmith), it would be a simple task of applying for an import permit, then jumping on Brownells and ordering the parts. But did you know that police are proposing that you should pay $590 for a permit to import? Not such a cheap or simple solution anymore is it? The import permit might cost more than your rifle is worth. Of course this applies to any arms item you wish to import. So add to that triggers, action screws, barrels, muzzle brakes... This change would undoubtedly impact the private importer, as well as the smaller dealers and gunsmiths the most. But it will also be lumped onto our wholesalers and bigger retailers. You can expect this to be passed onto the end consumer. If you think this is totally unreasonable, make sure you respond to the police consultation document and let them know. Let your mates know and consider letting your Member of Parliament know as well.

$590 seems excessive, but having no fee does seem very unusual in this day and age

There is a fee. You pay tax.

You wont. They're too scared to say anything that might get them in trouble.

Did you know Norsk that they also have kangaroo court there. I will give you an example.

Fred the copper is a bit of a lad. Gets into a bit of fisticuffs with one of the local criminals. Some upwardly mobile Police upper echelon type charges Fred with assault. Fred goes to Court, get found not guilty.

End of the matter you might think, alas No!!

Fred now gets charged internally with 'Bringing the Police's good name into disrepute' and still gets dismissed.

Figure that out. They actually have a system, which believes it is a higher authority than the Court.

And you wonder while they all roar like mice.

@OGM not really. By his example given he was already the all clear by the courts. Anything after that could.be vindictive I suppose

Then they loose trust and respect then instead just enforce the law.

Which in turn makes their job harder and more dangerous.

In a normal job if you make a mistake do you go to jail? lose your job? Risk your families welfare?

I wouldn't think so.

So many people blinded by the small details of the small picture here.. NZ is following the UNs plan of total civilian disarmament. We are actually behind many other countries such as Aussie and the UK etc in this process..
It is a case of death by 1000 cuts.
The only way of stopping this process would be to have a total change of government structure and remove all involvement from the UN.
It is laughable that people think this process will change if the vote for the next puppet in line such as national or act.
While I like seeing Nichole fight the small fights it does nothing to change the big battle.

Removing Semi autos, banning kids from shooting clubs, demonizing firearms and owners in the media, active shooter training in pre schools and primary schools, registration of existing arms, upping licencing related fees etc is all aimed at making it unattractive and unaffordable to the next generation of "would be" recreational shooters.

Enjoy our sport and recreation while we can because it is only a matter of time and it will all be gone.

I'm all for user pays but I also think it needs to go to a tender of private companies just like the crown recommended. Paying more for the same cop to do the same job we already pay him for just seems a little off IMO. I bet if it was tendered privately removing all government department involvement you would see cost come down drastically.

Got to laugh about the new name of the existing police firearms regulation department..

(1)
No one shall be liable to conviction of any offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute an offence by such person under the law of New Zealand at the time it occurred.


(2)
No one who has been finally acquitted or convicted of, or pardoned for, an offence shall be tried or punished for it again.



If this section said 'Tried and punished for it again, it would mean you cant be tried for it again and punished.......but the word 'or' could be taken to include other forms of punishment like losing your job....

Wonder if he argued that......

Thats a very valid point, any lawyers on here know how this would work?

I'm not against user pays, but how it be anything like cost recovery for that price. It would take 5 minutes to look at the permit, pull up the computer file, check that they are allowed to have whatever part, digitally stamp it and send it off to Customs?

$590 = $7K an hour. Fuck that noise.
