Cahill tells us where the criminals are getting guns.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHZHFFPFmLg

But hold on Cahill, does this mean all the gangs are buying all the illegal drugs off 'straw buyers' as well?

Perish the thought they may be importing them in the same largely unchecked containers coming into the country?

Cahill, a known Oxygen thief, insists that criminals are obtaining their firearms from "straw buyers".
If that is the case, why are we not seeing reports of the alleged "straw buyers" being processed through the justice system? Surely, MSM would be gleefully reporting such instances?
Cahill needs to put up, or shut up.

He couldn't shut up if he tried....nor could he tell the truth...even just once....If he is so certain his ideas will work, why don't they wrk inAussie or England?

Exactly....... and when they are put before the courts, the sentence is manifestly inadequate when compared to what illegal hunters are "threatened" with.
2 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
When has a "straw buyer" had to sell their house to pay said $100,000 fine...... a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket seems to be the norm.

It is all rhetoric ably assisted by the Media to undermine the McKee Arms Act Reforms. We tread dangerous ground, Australian style, particularly Western Australia, gun laws might very well be inbound and given the couldn't care less attitude by NZ gun owners, as evidenced by the recent Submission numbers, do not be surprised. Cahill/Police and their fellow travellers know this so expect the Guns Bad in the Media to increase ten or twenty fold in the near future. I have a bad feeling we are going to be worse, much worse, off than where we are now.

Especially with the likes of John Campbell wittering on and Cahill feeding the media.

I'm shocked, we've had the firearms register in place for 2 years now. Why hasn't it stopped these crimes from occurring like Cahill said it would?

To give the devil his due.
Once everyone is registered (or at least the law abiding people) straw buyers should become impossible.
Although it should already be impossible now, anyone can sell their existing firearms to a gang/criminal and there will be no way to trace it.

If the register ends up staying (which sadly seems more and more likely the longer it goes on and the more people registered) Id like to see regular reviews into if it's worth it or not.

If it turns out to have little or no effect on criminals getting hold of guns then it should be scrapped, regardless of sunk costs.

Unfortunately I don't thinkany Government department ever does a review into cost effectiveness, or review cost vs outcome. It's just grow baby grow.

Australian experience is quite different from what Cahill and Gun Control NZ like to imply: Research suggests it is easier than ever for criminals to get guns illegally in Australia

The problem is, good intentions seem to outweigh actual outcomes, deliberately or unconsciously. And as it's a technical subject, easier for articles to go with feelings rather than facts. (Firearms aren't the only example of this and its not a new phenomenon)

The registry has already failed. Numerous people are bring told to, and forced to enter incorrect information because the correct attribute be it calibre or make, isn't available.

Not only are you forced to commit an offense but the data is tainted on entry. There is no hope of it getting anywhere near the needed accuracy to be effective.

Well, given that was a Stuff interview, it's likely bugger all saw it, given the current rate of media trust, and they would already be anti

Well Luxons comments are encouraging given the usual outlook from parliament over the last few years....
