    Cannon Type Firearm?

So it is a Cannon then? Wonder why it was loaded in the vehicle. Strange

Why? I often just patrol around with a loaded cannon

You never know when you might be attacked by pirates!

Rather than a "cannon" do we think it might have actually been a 40mm grenade launcher with a training round or a buckshot round perhaps?

Used to be quite common in the heyday of blackpowder shooting in MZ to make canons using a piece of 40mm Bofors barrel. I still know of at least 2.
    Maybe not the case here...........

there are a few Gas powered cannons floating around that ive seen.

We made a 75mm one a while back that would fire steel bakedbean/spaghetti tins filled with concrete for solids and gravel for "birdshot".

Cant say that we ever drove around with it loaded though.

There is lots of Legal Canon type firearms being operated in NZ firing all sorts of projectiles from 50 cal lead balls to soft drink cans filled with concrete .

It's been discussed here regularly and there are Videos posted on the subject .... some were posted by myself.

Coincidently 40mm is about the right size for a Golf Ball Canon.

Same safety rules apply for these Firearms as apply to any other firearm.

Maybe he was pissing around with it on the back of his ute and for some reason loaded it and ignited the charge.

If he'd been using it at the range and then was allowed to remove his firearm without the unload and show clear type procedures then I'd be very concerned indeed.

However having owned such firearms for a number of years One thing I do Know even when loaded they don't go bang for no reason.

One generally has to introduce an ignition source of one type or another.

Will have to wait for the coroners report.

    Feel for the family too.

    Cheers
    Pete

We run a comp where we Hammer a stake into the ground 100m down range.

Three shots each, closest to the stick wins.
