Just don’t be a plonker and carry your rifle in your hand with the barrel pointing down track.. my rifle lives in a slip and is strapped to my pack. Doc tracks are purely for transport as far as hunting is concerned.You rules clearly state no shooting inside of 500m from a track..

Permit condition #5....No firearm shall be discharged: Within 500m of a Great Walk Hut or track. As in Great Walk Track.
