Finally managed to find a house that we could afford to put a deposit down on and move in on 12th Decmeber
Do I need to go visit my AO or can the address change be done online.
Will the AO come round and make a new check on the security?

Congrats on purchase
Drop in and there is a 30sec form to fill out and leave there.
Dont have to see ao its at the front counter.
They send a general duties officer around to cheek what security arrangement you have.
Thats how it works in the mighty palmy, wouldn't think it was much different.
Good on ya KK
Last time I changed address the Licencing inspector came round and did a security check, took down the serial numbers of all my B, C & E cat firearms.
That was 6 years after I notified the AO of my change of address via the form at the police office. :D
Cheers
Pete
Filled out form well before moving, well over a year later haven't had a visit.
Hmmm this sounds similar to my experience. Filled in form and posted away.
Then went to renew my licence, to find out that my details had not been updated!
I was stunned to say the least
I have done it on line and then it took about six weeks for the inspection to occur.
Same.

And will be doing it again in Jan to the new house
"Will the AO come round and make a new check on the security? "
Well when I said to him I wanted to get a bigger safe (hahahahaha, what a surprise) he said he wanted to come and see it was installed OK.
So I suggest you ask, I like keeping on the AO's good side, I mean its no biggee.
I just popped into the cop shop and dropped off the form, 4 years later and still no visit!
Yep, he dropped in at my new address.....we shared a Latte while conversing on my new 7-08.......:ORLY:
Moved three times since my original security check. Told the fuzz, no checks done on three years.
Online form, but even with endorsements only had three two checks in 17 years
Changed mine online four weeks ago, not really expecting a check any time soon. Back in Wellies I moved twice with no inspection.

I know what you mean Dougie, changed house a while back, well 15 years ago, and the Police didnt turn up until I had to renew my licence and even then the bloke forgot to check my safe out until I reminded him. The fact that I used to have a beer with 40 years back may have been the problem. Too bust catching up on the gossip:P
When we moved, told the cops, they turned up bout two weeks later. took all of five mins, he liked my safe. Then said all was good. Then departed, hardly checked anything really.
when I moved they turned up 2 days before I moved again this time it took 4 months they say they are flat out doing checks all the time there cant be that many people moving surely
It's an under resourced group. No over time allowed, and considering how much work goes into a single FAL application, moving, endorsements and action on current FAL owners takes up a lot of their limited time.
well three weeks after completing the online change of address the Napier AO rang to make an appointment to visit and turned up this afternoon. Did his inspection and all passed
Nice one KK, yeah i had the same moving over to Hamilton. I had to chase the AO's and put in a good few calls.
I hadn't heard for a while after putting in my change of address then out the blue, literally months later, i get this call about my gun safe and someone wants to come round and see it. I got a little paranoid as they mentioned about the gun safe not me so checked it all out and when the AO came round first thing he showed me was his ID.
Someone calling out the blue asking when i will be round so they can check my safe and not knowing who it is raises little red flags.
Turns out he was a good bugger but you can never be too careful.
They are IMHO a fantastic resource and i just wish there were more of them. This one guys weekend looked pretty buggered trying to get round to see everyone.
I moved 3 times in 8 years before they finally came around, only because I applied for an import permit.
Actually my current license expires on Sunday, still no sign of the new one after applying back in early December and being reinspected and interviewed.
