    Disposing of expired license

Just received my shiny new firearms license and in the letter it says that I should take my expired license to my local police station and hand it over to them for safe disposal!
Anyone else had to do this?

My new one is in the post. I feel like they can come collect the old one if they want.
But I have trust issues, so maybe take that with a pinch of salt.

Has anyone had consequences of not handing it back?

It's another stupid rule that creates a possible offence if you don't do it. As long as it is destroyed, it shouldn't matter, but we are fit and proper, so just do what the Police require.

And if you're far away from a local cop shop then just destroy it or cut it into strips but take photos as back up.

    I've just renewed my licence.
I got the email on Thursday saying I had been approved. I must admit, when I got to the bit where they said I had been approved, I stopped reading.
To be honest, I was expecting a whole pile of drama with my renewal.
There was a heap of paperwork due to a number of endorsements. But the whole process was reasonably straight forward.
Everyone I dealt with at the FSA was polite, helpful and accommodating/understanding.
My interview was last Monday 13, and my approval email arrived on Thursday 16th.
So give the front line people a fare go.

Son just got his new licence he had let his lapse after being involved at the Mosque, he said it was totally painless to reapply and get a new one after several years of not having one.

Yeah well on that subject I got a phone call from the cops in 2002 regarding that my FAL at that time was about to expire AND did I want to keep it.....answer was no as I had sold my guns and had got into 4wding as a hobby. Downside was when unfortunate circumstances negated that I needed my FAL again from application date to approved date was nearly 2.5yrs. Covid, post ChCh and all that shyte. Kicker is that I've got the exact same FAL number back again which is really cool.

In all honesty, I do not see the big deal. You have your new licence. It does not require you surrender old one on a certain date. Pretty simple too drop off to police station at some point when you pass through town. 2 minute transaction.

My on site inspection was 13th Jan and I received the approval the next day.

I did read that my old license is now no longer valid and I can't use it until the new one arrives.
I was advised the printers were running 6 to 8 weeks late as it's the same company who does driver licenses.

My renewal was pretty straight forward and the one thing the inspection officer pulled me up on was corrected in real time while he was doing paperwork.

I read somewhere that renewed licenses are valid for 10 years, but mine has kept it original 5.

Is your new licence 5 or 10?

Nice to hear some positive feedback here for a change rather than the usual hate on the police and fsa

New license is 5 years. Re-newel before expiring is ten years, same as previous license should have been. Re-newel after expires or reinstate is 5 years. If you had a ten-year license and got the paperwork in to renew before it expired and have received a 5-year license, then I would be contacting FAS and asking about it.
