E-Cat Firearms. Are you meant to remove the bolts when they are in the safe?

E-Cat Firearms, are you required to remove the bolts when they are stored in the safe (E Cat Safe) and store the bolts separately?
What are the rules?
I have never heard this one before but its been mentioned in an email to our local club giving us a heads up on an upcoming audit.

I only remove the bolts from my A-Cat bolt actions.
I have trigger locks or a cable through the actions for my pump action (A-Cat) or semi auto (A and E-Cat) firearms.

Its only recommended to remove the bolt(s), its not law.

Considering they are in a 6mm E-Cat safe anyway.

Don't have to remove bolts.

Storing the bolt separately in non-E cat approved storage is breaking a condition of the endorsement.

Section 28 of the Arms Regulations outlines the rules for security. Arms Regulations 1992 (SR 1992/346) (as at 11 December 2013) – New Zealand Legislation

Been a E-cat holder since day one so it was a new one for me.
Hell of a good way to loose all my bolts too.

I wish the top police ppl would make their goddam mind up and write policies and then train all their AOs in them.

I remove my buffer and buffer spring as well as my bolt. I also remove the spring in the magazine as well.

I remove my bolt, i like to clean it after use anyway

I store my bolts in a dedicated 10mm safe, I just happened to have....

Common sense is just not all that common.

NO WAY! Keep them in your approved storage until you have seen the vetting officers credentials.

It would be appreciated if your members could assist the Vettors and make their visits 'short & sweet', by having their listed weapons ready and accessible for serial number checking at the appointed time.


Doesn't say have them OUT. Says have them ready and accessible. Bit of a difference. Perhaps some common sense to be applied.

I unwind the springs too. You can never be too careful these days.
