    E-cat safe confusion

I just received an E-cat safe from my local gun store ready for my B and E endorsement.
    the safe that arrived is
    Stag Creek 10 Gun Safe 6mm Steel B-Cat, C-Cat, E-Cat Approved Height: 1500mm Width: 600mm Depth: 400mm

    Also on trademe from guncity
    Stag Creek 10-16 Gun Safe 6mm Steel B, C & E-Cat | Trade Me

I paid $800 for it new so am bloody stoked cos it's half retail, although when I ordered it the store mentioned they have been known to receive lightly damaged safes at a discounted price.

But I see in the website it's called a B/C/E cat safe but in the description is only listed as A/B/C and not E.
I also see that the locks are different from
    Stag Creek 7-10 Gun Safe 6mm Steel B, C & E-Cat | Trade Me

Does the locking mechanism on mine look like it's compliant with E-cat requirements?

And I saw at the local hunting and Fishing that if a safe is over 150kg it doesn't need to be secured?
I'm going to Dynabolt it to our concrete floor anyway but would like to avoid screwing it to the studs if possible.

is over 150kg it doesn't need to be secured
    Can someone confirm this?
Would this mean that if I just put a pile of lead plates in my safe, I wouldn't have to secure it to anything?

mine weighs more then that. 10mm minimum diameter bolt chemset into concrete not dynabolt and 100mmx10mm coach screws into the wall. i have never been allowed to dynabolt into concrete or not have bolts into wall 2 in the floor and 2 in the wall at least as always been enforced i use 12mm bolts,

I've never had any issues with using dynabolts. I've also found that if its bolted on the second floor (i.e the floor underneath is internal) then they're happy for it to be 10mm coach screws into the floor and wall.

thats the confusing thing its all up to the arms officer to determine if it is suitable, they have national standards to go by but flex the rules around it.

I used 4 x 15mm dynabolts, the person inspecting (young constable I think) the safe wasn't happy that they were not welded over or "chemset" and suggested to me that someone could cut them off with angle grinder. Asked me why I was laughing at him, "this was very very serious".

I asked did he not think if they had managed to get the safe door open to access the bolts then they might as well just grab the guns and bugger off and leave the safe behind!!!! Or did he expect they would want the safe to so they could comply with the storage requirements once they got them!!!

At least the usual guy who normally does my inpection had common sense

I would suggest asking for a copy of the safes approval certificate, then make some copies and give one to the person doing the inspection and keep the rest just in case

Storage requirements for B and E are essentially the same.

That's a hell of a safe for $800! Which store did you buy it from? I'd like one for myself

That's what I wanted to hear, hopefully the Nelson AO is a good bugger. the last one certainly was. My plywood homemade A cat safe wasn't up to standard so he told me to bolt a chain and padlock to the wall, pull it through the trigger guards and all good

Motueka Gun shop, might be a bit too far from you.
But like I mentioned above, I suspect they've given me a better model that's been roughed up, cos it's got some paint repairs and manufacturing scratches, surface rust on exposed metal inside and just generally looks like shit.
Or they've stuffed up and I've got the wrong one, in which case I'm staying quiet

tauranga rotorua and waikato ao all wanted chemset i had to show them the used tube as well, i asked if i could use dynabolts all three said no, you can coach screw into floor joist but any bolt through floor panel had to have a 300mmx300mm of 6mm plate per bolt to comply. a bit anal but atleast theres less chance of the safe being uplifted.

Shit I wish the local had some of those, my best mate is a spraypainter haha

I'd thought about painting the inner 2'' of my safe with plastidip, just for extra protection.. But if its a factory second safe then ill get it done in that nice soft black underseal stuff and pretend I'm the Batman whoo hooo

My new E-cat safe is similar size, and weighs ~170kg.
It is fixed in 6 places with M10 bolts.

We have to have one of the best AO's in the country, said that if it's got a few bolts to the floor and wall she'll be right. Which is logical seeing it's 180kg and stuffed into a small cupboard
