I've got this pretty roughly from a mate who is actually in the know but it goes kinda like this-

1 Buy cheap cellph on prepay with ok camera

2 Install security app and set it up (needs to be in coverage area obv)

3 Leave in wardrobe/garage/shed like a cross between a PIR and a game camera - anything that crosses the cameras field of view will generate a series of picture texts from the phone straight to your phone

If I have got it right you can text a code to the phone to switch it off when you are accessing that area and arm it again

It would need to stay plugged in on permanent charge and if some thief knows it's there and hides his face or you are a long way away it isn't so good but it might be the right sort of deal for someone seeing as us NZers are so notoriously tight hahaha

TL;DR Can do monitored alarm with a cheap prepay

Now that is one heck of an idea - haven't see that before. I've seen something similar with game cameras, but have seen them get stolen outside or ripped apart inside and the sim card removed. I guess the only issue is making sure the phone's operating system and alarm app are stable enough that they don't crash and stop working without your knowledge.

That too - I do appreciate the fact that a cell phone doesn't require a physical internet connection or router on site, which frees up the places it can be used.
