    Firearms legislation policy opportunities

Ministry of Justice is looking for senior policy advisors and policy advisors to work on the amendments to NZ firearm legislation. This is a heads-up - I don't want it to devolve Iinto a government slam-fest. The right person in this role could make a real difference. The wrong person could make things very bad for us indeed.

    See https://apply.justice.govt.nz/jobs/MOJ-1799838 and https://apply.justice.govt.nz/jobs/MOJ-1799839

    You will be experienced in:

leading complex policy projects and reviewing and developing complex legislation
all stages of the Parliamentary legislative process
    coaching and mentoring advisors
    designing and running consultation processes.

the right person yes you are right Bol Tackshin but where is the requirement for someone with firearm experience above from their job advert real risk of getting a career professional who knows nothing about firearms but can say yes to all of above

Two and a half years work in the lead role will take us through to the full term of the current coalition so not much results wise is going to happen for us very quickly.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Exactly, this isn't a Govt thing its more a bureaucracy wheels turning thing - must have person with XXX in that position tick. Problem with it as you highlight - without a high amount of technical industry specific knowledge the 'right' decision made according to all of the policy and paperwork requirements can be a complete disaster in reality. The ability to apply what they are doing to practical outcomes in real world situations doesn't exist without actual hands on experience.
