I received one from Nash, not the police, but that’s just bad management or arrogance, or maybe the lost file?
I got niffink. Good on you guys for including Nash. Also not a bad idea to include the opposition MP with this responsibility. Happy new year

My penny's worth
My understanding for a number of years has been that cynicism is a state of mind that predisposes one to see everything from a bad and bitter perspective. Whereas cynicism is often born out of experience (but can simply have been absorbed by the inexperienced from cynical company, reading, viewing or even an internet forum), it is nevertheless the outlook of someone jaded, with a chronically negative expectation he/she just cannot shake off. This can sadly make someone less fun to socialise with.
Realism is less biased and a healthy realist can view things from both their pessimistic and optimistic sides. Usually aided by an absence of fear of doing either. Realism I think takes a bit of conscious effort, after the initial knee jerk responses, but that said, gut feelings are not to be ignored.
Idealists are similar to cynics in that they prefer to see things a certain way, according to their world view or ideology. Like cynics, idealists also have a blind spot to the opposite side as they filter it out according to their preferences. Politicians are often idealists and may make bad practical calls for that reason.
In the current police consutation situation... if LFAOs hold to a beautiful and optimistic view of the rosy goodness of human nature, they would tend to see the police consultation exercise as somewhat inept and time pressured but nevertheless evidencing genuine interest in the views of a law abiding group of people who generally know what they are talking about. Realistically, there is likely an element of such goodness and sensibleness, but this will be rigidly contained and has to fall in line with the NZ Police's inflexible top-down hierarchy. As such, yes, this consultation exercise smells of tokenism, but our contributions nevertheless had to be made.
Realists among us CC'd their submissions to the Police Minister. Being a bit of an idealist I'm playing catch-up with the realists and will also write to the Police Minister myself soon.
@Cordite
The cynic in me expects the worst of people,'
The optimist in me hopes for the best from people
and the realist in me is what I normally find....unfortunately my experience tends to err towards the cynical as so many times this is where the reality falls.....
I copied a few ministers one at a time with each one being addressed individually. Opposition could also be worth a try as they like to ask awkward questions in public if it makes the other side look worse....
What is the difference between an optimist and a pessimist? By definition both believe this is the best possible world they will ever get to live in.......
Hi @timattalon
Yes pessimists and optimists and cynics and naives all have something in common, a certain preference for a picture that they happen to be comfortable with.
In the end it comes down to that in the end there is one objective single reality which we all try to understand in our individual, sometimes odd ways each from our particular angles, but no one has perfect or complete insight on their own.
Happy 2018!
@timattalon
Especially having a good laugh at ourselves! You know, the times we really made an ass of ourselves... [cringe!]
Do agree on reincarnation back into this life - an accessory option you can picatinny to almost anything you believe (now who is the cynic!?!). That said there's no compelling scientific reason to conclude that this life is all there is, or ever will be. Opinions on that, both for or against, are a matter of what your underlying faith will let through the door [@Cordite deftly jumped back on topic]
