I have nothing to hide as I have obviously already been vetted for immigration, but I had to supply the police record check for that, as (at the time) the UK police could not release info without my direct consent.

I once worked with a guy here in NZ who used to boast he got a clean police clearance for his immigration from South Africa by bribing police in Durban to lose his files or provide a boogie clean one (records were from mid 80's to the early 90's, he came over around '94, so minimal digital records) which consisted of a LOT of petty theft, theft of vehicles, one armed robbery, and a range of drug offenses. Total arsehole, last I heard he'd been unemployed and on dole since mid 2000's with no intention of getting a job.
